PackBack is an account-based system. This means that with a PackBack account, consumers are able to borrow reusables for free.

After downloading the app, the consumer creates an account. This only takes about one minute. The consumer needs to fill in their banking info and their name. Whenever a consumer borrows a reusable, this will be added to their account. By late return of the reusable a compensation fee will be charged.

Only when a consumer has a valid PackBack account, the consumer can receive a reusable. Therefore, a verification of the consumer's account needs to take place. The consumer scans the 'Entry code' of the vendor and shows the employee the green checkmark on their phone.

Great! The consumer has a valid PackBack account. Business as usual: an order is placed and the drink or meal is prepared. Only this time, the order is served in a reusable. The reusable can easily be returned by scanning the QR code attached to it.

After the QR code of the reusable is scanned, it can be returned in a SmartBin. These SmartBins are strategically located to easily hand in reusables.

When the reusable is succesfully returned, the consumer receives a confirmation notification within the PackBack app.

The SmartBin needs to be emptied when it's full of returned reusables. The used reusables will be collected and thoroughly sanitised. This can be done on location or by a third party.

Final important note: PackBack is 100% free of charge for consumers IF they return the reusable on time. Please stress this to your customers.

In this course we will explain what changes in the work place once the PackBack system is implemented. We also discuss what this means for you as an employee. Step by step, we explain what you need to pay attention to and what your role is within the system.

As discussed in the previous course, PackBack is an account-based system. This means that consumers can only receive a reusable with their meal or drink order if they've created a PackBack account. Via the app, the consumer is able to scan the 'Entry code' of your location.

An Entry code is a QR code on a display that is specific to your location. Always make sure your Entry code is visible and reachable for consumers to scan. This is essential for tracing reusables and making sure no reusable gets lost. So, it is important for you, PackBack and the consumer.

When ordering drinks or meals in a reusable, the consumer needs to have a valid PackBack account. How do you verify this? When the consumer scans the Entry code on the counter, a green checkmark will appear in the PackBack app. The consumer shows you the green checkmark so you know their account is valid. The order can now be prepared in a reusable!

The next step is to, as usual ,prepare a tasty order for the consumer. The only difference is now that order is packaged in a reusable. We will make sure sufficient packaging is in stock. Drinks and meal in reusables do taste better of course!

What else does the consumer need to do? Before returning the reusable the QR-code on the reusable is scanned and placed in the SmartBin. The SmartBin is always available and will be emptied when needed.

You might wonder what happens with the reusables after they are returned? ​The reusables are cleaned by an external party. When clean again, they will be returned to your work place for another round of use.

Reusable packaging are returned in one of our PackBack SmartBins. SmartBins can be found at participating locations. The SmartBins are emptied when they are full. Used packages are then cleaned and stacked again for another order.

PackBack works with a deposit-based system. This means that consumers need to pay a small deposit at check-out to be able to borrow reusables. All you have to do is click on the ‘deposit’ button when processing an order and the deposit amount will be automatically added to the consumer’s final bill. 

Once consumers are finished with their meal/drink, they can return the reusable(s) in a SmartBin. This is done by simply placing the reusable(s) inside the SmartBin and holding a debit card/phone in front of the payment terminal.

A question that consumers often ask is: “how do I get my deposit back?” The answer is quite simple! The deposit will be refunded within 24 hours after handing in the reusable(s) in the SmartBin.

The SmartBin needs to be emptied when it's full of returned reusables. The used reusables will be collected and thoroughly sanitised. This can be done on location or by a third party.
